Climate change and the collapse of civilization, are getting tied together more every day, as strange attractors. Now they are coming together for a long commitment that is as certain as an engagement to be married soon.

Alan Urban, whose articles on these subjects are also published on medium, notes denial-ism on both these issues continues to be abundantly resistant to many facts and events that are occurring more often everywhere around us. Disbelief is conjoined with popular mistrust of governments, institutions and poor science education.

Prophets of both, no matter how much are based in solid science, evidence, and analysis, are less welcome than are whistle-blowers or journalists to organizations with hidden corruption that needs to be exposed. Global nations and energy politics dare descend only a few steps downwards on a “ladder of denial” which seems to have infinite regress, perhaps because their findings ultimately questions the permanence of their nations right to exist, and impinge on terror of mortality that every human has deep inside.

It is true that human cognitive biases are us. Each of us has them in various kinds, both inherited and trained by experience, all juggled in some kind of mental balance to help maintain sanity and continue the business of living as usual. Our mental models are often…
