Our "free will" is designed by evolution, not us, which is a process more ungodly than any Klaatu we can imagine. Our complex but ancient cellular development programs are for us to seek to eat, drink, be merry, babble our self justifications away, have sex and look after our children and relatives, and those around who might also help us. We are controlled by emotion reactions to threats and opportunities. Future environments and species will result, like our species did, not as a goal or wishes, but by emergence and luck. Our programming by evolution cares not about our mindless outcomes of survival, growth and reproduction, that only to maximise rates of entropic transformation until we are no longer adapted to survive and reproduce, or just give up.
