The main point of your articles, Umair, is colourfully describing the collapse of individual societies and nations. In a collapsing state which has previously enjoyed much existing power and wealth inequality, the general effect is for the powerful to arrange things so as to maintain their own status, and keep up appearances of doing the “right” thing.

The reasons for collapse are not only moral failures and ignorance on behalf of the masses, and culpable greed of the powerful. There is only one basic reason, to our current situation, which is the delusions of “Growth”. Global carrying capacity for supply of infinitely growing human wants is falling in real time. We, the self-indulgent evolved apes, exploiters in our glorious short-lived industrial civilisation, may it grow forever, are the vampires draining the life-bloods of Gaia, and poisoning her with our wastes. As evidence, look up the “planetary boundaries” studies, and their is some sort of integrated combined index of multiple boundaries going far into the red zone. No industrial machine system of any kind can parasitise our life systems of Gaia and its buried mineral treasures and grow exponentially for more than a few generations.

All the “goods” that supplied the UK and provisioned its citizens life needs previously came in large quantities from elsewhere. Global trade is mutual life systems collapse. “Every elsewhere” is now dying and decreasing its capacity to supply all of the global vampires. Including the USA, the EU, UK, and formerly “great” vampires that feasted on the life bloods from less “industrial” nations. The anaemic exploited ones also had “growth”, of their parasitic trade enablers, which required growth equivalent outposts of hungry industrial civilisation.

China is the latest growing vampire feeding on global life systems. In this age of impending global warming collapse and “promises” of greenhouse gas emissions reductions, China even today talks about a growth rate of six per cent. They are stunned drunk on blood, just as we were, and still are, because we think it sounds good too. If maintained for 11 years, China’s global life blood sucking and poisoning rates will be double what they are today. Of course trade with the rest of the elsewhere’s might also claim to be doubled. This isn’t going to be possible, as it will more than double the rate of global collapse of the biosphere.

The number one global crime today of any part of industrial civilisation is “Growth”. No one of authority in the global media delusion sphere, and not many of the prolific prattlers on medium dare talk about it for what it is. What your essays demonstrate, Umair, is that collapse is happening everywhere where industrial civilisation has been feeding and growing and is still trying to feed itself, and this is draining our biosphere to death. Temporary success feeds our delusional sense of immunity.

Extra spending by money creation, is your brain-washed economists solution. To keep up supplies for our entitlement to have our infinite wants supplied. All extra spending flows up to the wealthy owners of the rat race systems. This is going to do nothing more than increase the real inflation rate, hidden in the rising prices of corporate shares and industrial luxury life, decreasing affordability of necessities for the masses, and increase the global rates of life destruction and collapse.

The chief policy of those still affording the industrial luxury lifestyle, including the extra large bottom-feeding members of all global national governments, of all political stripes, is to pretend it isn’t happening. That’s how it goes, with a pathetic chorus whimpers. It was never going to last.

All of this is happening as more or less predicted in the “Business as usual” growth scenarios in the “Limits to Growth” studies, published in 1972. Meanwhile, the global industrial systems collapse, will allow for some biosphere recovery, after nature stops carrying a large fraction of its load of global parasites, namely us. Be proud that you can call yourself a “vampire”.

Collapse is the answer of all of the laws of the Universe to systems that insist on having exponential growth. It is the end state of every complex organism that consumes to live. Live with that. Bring it on.
