The only hope is to understand ourselves, and our societies, and our place in the systems of nature, and learn to regulate ourselves accordingly. Until then we are always running away from our own misconceptions and delusions, into awful new predicaments of our own making. Surviving the next 400,000 years of prolonged global warming bottleneck, as a species, culture and civilisation without losing everything will be plenty hard enough.
