The scam is that we can consume the biosphere, infiltrate it everywhere with our industrial wastes and still have it to live in it as a pleasant place. Technically this is called overshoot. The crime is the extreme rapidity of greenhouse gas atmosphere change, some big orders of magnitude faster than anything ever managed in past epochs of time. The mitigation is industrial civilisation collapse, self managed or otherwise, not necessarily followed by our extinction.
