Well described. We human social beings also seem to want a sense of agency, power, status recognition. Although getting these does not cure a nagging sense of insecurity. We subject each other’s to a social pecking order but are also swayed by peer pressure to fit in. Advertisers know our hooks. Power craving seems to increase with success, seems to be the most unsatisfiable urge, as national leaders and CEO’s set themselves ever new absurd goals to stay ahead of the pack, leading to wars and extravagant wastes of resources and lives. We egg each other on, and fail to call off crazy social goals, in the madness of crowds, in fear of missing out. We pillory the disbelievers. We become subject to mass social hallucinations.
